DIY Watercolour Postcard Kit – Rare & Threatened Tasmania
Paint your own little piece of Tasmania
Discover some of Tasmania’s most precious and protected wildlife with the Rare & Threatened DIY Watercolour Postcard Kit — a curated collection celebrating four species facing serious conservation challenges.
Featuring illustrated watercolour designs of the Orange-bellied Parrot, Swift Parrot, Red Handfish and Tasmanian Giant Freshwater Crayfish, this unique creative kit shines a little light on the remarkable species found in Tasmania and the importance of protecting them.
From a tiny parrot that migrates between Tasmania and mainland Australia to one of the world’s most unusual marine fish, each species tells a different story about Tasmania’s natural environment. The kit is designed to make learning about these animals a little more hands-on, giving you the chance to slow down and paint your own interpretation of some of the island’s most vulnerable wildlife.
Once finished, turn your postcards into tiny artworks, send them to a fellow nature lover, or keep them as a reminder of the incredible species that call Tasmania home.
Each kit contains four illustrated DIY watercolour postcards, two mini paint palettes with 10 hand-poured watercolour paint dabs, and a refillable watercolour brush. Everything is packed into a compact, portable format, so you can paint at home, take it travelling or settle in for a quiet afternoon of creative time.
Meet the Species
Orange-bellied Parrot
One of Australia’s most threatened birds, the tiny Orange-bellied Parrot is a seasonal visitor to Tasmania, making the journey across Bass Strait as part of its migration.
Swift Parrot
A bright, fast-flying Tasmanian native that depends on flowering eucalypt forests for food and breeding habitat. The Swift Parrot is one of Australia’s most threatened birds.
Red Handfish
Small, strange and unmistakably Tasmanian, the Red Handfish is a critically endangered marine species found in Tasmania’s coastal waters. Rather than swimming, it uses its modified fins to ‘walk’ along the seafloor.
Tasmanian Giant Freshwater Crayfish
One of the world’s largest freshwater invertebrates, this remarkable species is found only in Tasmania. It lives in cool, clean rivers and streams and is protected due to declining populations and habitat pressures.

Start with the illustrated outlines, add colour using the included hand-poured paints and watch each species come to life. There’s no need to be an experienced artist; the designs are made for beginners and anyone who enjoys taking their time with a creative project.
Keep the finished postcards as a miniature wildlife collection, send them as snail mail, or display your favourite pieces as small reminders of Tasmania’s extraordinary biodiversity.
